GLA:D Education and Exercise Programs

The Wolf Creek PCN offers two exciting education and exercise-based programs led by our Exercise Specialists: GLA:D Canada and GLA:D Back.

GLA:D Canada is a 16-session education and exercise-based program for individuals with symptoms of hip and/or knee osteoarthritis. The program consists of two education sessions, twelve supervised exercise sessions, and two assessments sessions completed twice per week over approximately eight weeks.

GLA:D Back is an 18-session education and exercise-based program for individuals with persistent or recurring back pain. The program consists of two education sessions and sixteen supervised exercise sessions completed twice per week over approximately nine weeks.

What makes these programs so exciting? They were developed at the University of Southern Denmark and have been used throughout Denmark and certain provinces in Canada to help individuals manage their hip, knee, and back pain. In fact, GLA:D Back is currently only offered in Alberta!

The GLA:D programs are based on the most up-to-date evidence supporting the use of education and exercise as first-line treatments for both symptoms of hip and knee osteoarthritis and persistent or recurring back pain. Participants in these programs have decreased their pain levels, reduced their use of medication to manage symptoms, and are able to be more physically active.
