Dementia Friendly Community Innisfail

The community of Innisfail recognizes the importance of supporting people living with dementia to live well and age in place with more choice and opportunity.

What is a Dementia Friendly Community (DFC)?

A  dementia-friendly community focuses on stigma reduction and the inclusion of people with dementia. People educated about dementia know that a person with dementia may sometimes experience the world differently. In a dementia-friendly community, people living with dementia feel supported by community members whether they are at local businesses, the post office, retail outlets, using transportation, or enjoying hobbies in the community.

Programs:

Care Partner Cue Cards provide essential visual picture cues that improve communication, promote independence, and reduce anxiety for adults with memory and cognitive challenges who live at home or in dementia care settings.
A drop-in support group for care partners, allowing them to meet with other care partners who are experiencing similar situations.
An exercise program for people with dementia and their care partners.
Let's Connect! provides interactive social and health programming opportunities for older adults. Available online or over the phone.
A social gathering place for those experiencing changes to their memory and thinking.
